How We Met

Jene and I met at a dance. On Friday, August 18, 1967, the day before my good friend Paul Godbout married the beautiful young Nancy Sarette in New Hampshire, I went to “The Barn” in Eden Prairie with a high school friend. Our expressed intent was to “meet some girls!” Immediately upon arrival, we spotted two attractive young ladies dancing with each other. I asked one of them to dance.

She said, “Sure.”

“And the rest,” as they say, “is history.”

Jene and I dated a couple of times before I went back to Notre Dame that September. On one of those occasions, I took her out for dinner at the very fancy Rosewood Room in downtown Minneapolis. She ordered snails! Then she ate them!! I thought to myself, “Who would do something like that? This girl could prove to be very interesting.”

I was right!
